Road infrastructure

Your entire county road network, on a single map.

RoadSense digitises the roads managed by the county council — every road, sign, marker, bridge, culvert, guardrail and ditch, inventoried, precisely located and ready to report. On top you see the UAT and PUG boundaries, on any of the 7 base maps.

Figures from a pilot county — the full county road network, put on the map.

On the same map

Roads, UAT and PUG boundaries, on 7 base maps

Everything overlaid in the same view, so you always have the full context of each road.

  • 7 base maps

Satellite Google and ESRI, Hybrid, Google and ESRI streets, OSM Standard and OSM HOT — pick the right backdrop for each task.

  • UAT boundaries

Administrative-territorial unit boundaries overlaid on the map — see which towns and communes each county road runs through.

  • PUG boundaries

General Urban Plan boundaries, right next to the road — urban-planning context useful for permits, works and approvals.

The challenge

Dozens of roads. Thousands of elements. One source of truth.

A county council manages hundreds of kilometres of roads, with thousands of signs, markers, bridges, culverts, guardrails and ditches. That information usually lives in old plans, separate spreadsheets and the memory of field staff. RoadSense brings all of it into a single visual platform, built around the map — reachable from the office and the field, on a computer or a phone.

What RoadSense does

Not just viewing — you manage the road data.

From the record of each element to the analysis of an area and the reports on the council meeting table. Click any image to enlarge it.

Element record

Click any element — see all its data

Every element in the network — sign, marker, bridge, culvert, guardrail or ditch — has a full record. You open it with one click on the map, no digging through tables or plans.

The record of a DJ252D sign, with every attribute and the Export KML / DXF / SHP, Edit and Delete buttons.

For a sign you see its road and name, the exact kilometre position (km+metres format), the side (left/right), the number, condition, size, material and standard code. At the bottom of the record you get the click position (lat/lon) and the attached PDF documents, plus the export and edit buttons.

What you can do

  • See all the element’s official attributes in one place
  • Get the exact coordinates (lat/lon and Stereo70 X/Y)
  • Open the PDF documents attached to the element
  • Edit or delete straight from the record, based on your rights

Available exports

  • KML
  • DXF (Stereo70)
  • SHP

How it helps: Go from “it’s somewhere on DJ252D” to the exact data in two seconds — useful in meetings, inspections and complaints.

Editing & documents

Update field data and attach documents

The inventory is not just read-only — you keep it current straight from the app. The edit form follows the CNAIR nomenclature and autosaves every change.

The autosaving edit form: code, KM, side, support, material, reflectivity + PDF document upload.

For a sign you fill in the code (from the catalogue), the KM in CNAIR format (km+metres), the side, size, inscription, support and support complement, material, reflectivity (sheeting class) and condition. On each element you can attach any number of PDF documents — reports, technical sheets, permits — by simply dragging them into the upload area.

What you can do

  • Fill in a full form, following the CNAIR nomenclature
  • KM in km+metres format (e.g. 4+405), side, size, inscription
  • Choose the support, material, reflectivity and condition
  • Attach PDF documents by drag & drop, with no size limit
  • Changes are saved automatically, no “save” button

How it helps: The inventory stays live and correct — updated as you work in the field, not once a year.

Markers & reference points

Kilometre markers with exact coordinates

Kilometre markers — existing and estimated — are the road’s official reference points. In RoadSense each marker has precise coordinates and a kilometre position.

An existing marker record on DJ156G, with X/Y Stereo70 coordinates and kilometre position.

The marker record shows the X/Y coordinates in Stereo70 (Romania’s official projection), the road, the kilometre and the exact position (e.g. 3+115), plus the identifier. Existing and estimated markers sit on separate layers so you can tell them apart at a glance.

What you can do

  • See the X/Y Stereo70 coordinates of each marker
  • Track the kilometre position on each road (e.g. 3+115)
  • Tell existing markers apart from estimated ones (separate layers)
  • Export markers for the field or for designers

Available exports

  • KML
  • DXF (Stereo70)
  • SHP

How it helps: You have the road’s official reference points, ready for measurements, setting out and technical documentation.

Road alignment

Every road, with its alignment and length

Beyond point elements, RoadSense knows each road as a continuous alignment. Click a road and its whole alignment highlights on the map.

The DJ156G alignment highlighted on the map, with its total length 7+527 and the markers along it.

The alignment record shows the code and official name (e.g. DJ156G / DJ 156G) and the total length in km+metres format (e.g. 7+527). You see at a glance where the road goes and how long it is — the basis for planning works and budgets.

What you can do

  • See the total length of each road (e.g. 7+527)
  • The road highlights on the map for clarity
  • Get the official name and code of the road
  • Export the alignment for CAD or GIS

Available exports

  • KML
  • DXF (Stereo70)
  • SHP

How it helps: You know exactly how many kilometres you manage on each road — essential for budgets, tenders and reports.

Customisable layers

The map looks exactly the way you need

The map has 16 thematic layers, and each can be turned on, off and styled independently. You set it up exactly the way you need for a meeting, an inspection or a plate.

Styling the signs layer: colour, size and labels, over the satellite imagery.

For each layer you choose the icon colour (a tint over the native symbol), the size (slider) and whether to show labels with the element type or description. Layers can be reordered, and the full set covers: shoulders, annexes, estimated and existing markers, pavement, signs, railway and road intersections, UAT and PUG boundaries, guardrails, culverts, bridges, ditches, alignment and retaining walls.

What you can do

  • Turn any of the 16 layers on or off
  • Change the colour and size of the icons
  • Show labels with the element type or description
  • Reorder layers for legibility

How it helps: The map becomes your presentation tool — clear and tailored to each audience.

Bookmarks

Save the views that matter

Working on the same sections often? Save the current view — position, zoom and layers — as a bookmark and jump back to it instantly.

The bookmarks panel: save the current map view and return to it any time.

Bookmarks keep your exact working context, so you don’t hunt for the same spot on the map every time. Useful when you split the network by area or team and keep coming back to the same points.

What you can do

  • Save the current position, zoom and layers under a name
  • Reopen the exact same view with one click
  • Organise work by area or section

How it helps: You save time every time you open the map — your working context is always one click away.

Spatial analysis

What’s in an area? Find out exactly, with export

The most powerful tool for “what do I have here?” questions. Draw an area, choose a radius (buffer) and RoadSense tells you in seconds exactly what elements are inside. Watch the real demo below.

Live demo: a drawn area, a 100 m buffer, intersection with the 16 layers and the result broken down by category — ready to export.

Draw a point, a line or a polygon, adjust the buffer from 0 to 1000 m and tick the layers you care about (from all 16). The result comes broken down by category, with the exact element count (e.g. 10 elements: 2 shoulders, 2 signs, 1 intersection…), and the full list can be exported.

What you can do

  • Draw a point, line or polygon on the map
  • Adjustable buffer, from 0 to 1000 m
  • Choose from all 16 layers
  • Result broken down by category, with exact counts
  • Export the full result in 5 formats

Available exports

  • KML
  • DXF (Stereo70)
  • SHP
  • PDF
  • GeoPDF

How it helps: Quickly prepare statements for works, expropriations, approvals or documentation, on a precise area.

AI assistant & voice

Ask in your own words, get the answer right away

For anyone who doesn’t want to learn a GIS program, the assistant “Alex” turns the map into a conversation. Draw an area and ask in your own words — see below how it answers on the spot.

Live demo: a drawn area, a natural-language question and the answer broken down by type, from the “Alex” assistant.

Ask “what elements do we have here?” or “how many culverts are on this section?”, typed or dictated with the microphone, and Alex answers with the total and the breakdown by type (e.g. 23 elements: 9 shoulders, 5 intersections, 3 ditches…). Action buttons (“See all”, “See Shoulders”) take you straight to the details.

What you can do

  • Ask in natural language, typed or with the microphone
  • Get the total and the breakdown by element type
  • Use action buttons for instant details
  • Combine the question with the buffer and drawn area

How it helps: Anyone in the institution finds the information, with no technical knowledge — from the front desk to leadership.
